A Day in My Life as a Work-from-Home Website Designer (Pregnancy Edition!)
Hi, I’m Alex — web designer, business owner, wife, and soon-to-be first-time mama. I run Story Reimagined, a Squarespace web design and template shop studio built to help small business owners launch stunning, strategic websites. My ultimate goal? To run a meaningful business from home while also being present for my growing family — starting with our first baby arriving this September 2025!
Working from home while pregnant is a unique kind of juggling act — some days are deeply productive, and others are all about preparing for the baby and reminding myself it’s okay to slow down. I started my business in September 2024, and found out I was pregnant just a few months later. That gave me a one-year runway to build systems, clarify my web design offer, list templates for passive income, and figure out how to grow something sustainable before stepping into maternity leave.
Spoiler alert: I am not an overnight success (no one is). I came into entrepreneurship with savings, support from my husband, and the mindset that building something meaningful and fruitful would take time — especially while navigating pregnancy and maternity leave planning.
If you’re also a work-from-home creative, a solo entrepreneur, or a mama-to-be trying to build a business and grow a baby — this post is for you. Let’s take a look behind the scenes at what my real day-to-day looks like right now, in this beautifully chaotic season of life:
My Morning Routine (Pregnancy Edition!)
Mornings look a little different these days — and honestly, I’ve grown to embrace the shift. I used to be a 5AM early bird: Bible & journaling done, coffee brewed, gym session in, and inbox cleared before sunrise. But pregnancy has brought a slower, more intentional rhythm to my mornings — and I’m here for it.
Here’s what most mornings look like now:
6–7AM: Wake up (with gratitude for every extra minute of sleep!)
7–8AM: Coffee + quiet time with my Bible and journal — this anchors me before the day starts
8AM: Breakfast — usually something simple and nourishing
8:30–9AM: Head to the gym for a light workout or dive into work first and squeeze in movement around lunchtime
Instead of rushing into client calls or long task lists, I’m focusing my mornings on what matters most right now: building systems, automating my business, creating Squarespace templates for passive income, and laying the groundwork for a sustainable maternity leave.
I’ve pressed pause on custom website projects for the time being — a decision I didn’t take lightly, but one I’ve made possible with the support of my husband and sticking to a tight, intentional budget. Social media can often paint this curated picture of instant success, but I want to be real with you: building a business while pregnant (and preparing for leave) isn’t linear, and it’s definitely not an overnight success story.
My mornings may be slower, but they’re far more focused. With pregnancy fatigue rolling in by 3PM most days, I’ve learned to keep things simple and strategic: three core tasks per day, a flexible routine, and lots of patience in the process.
A Peek Into My Work Blocks
Let’s talk workflow — or at least, what it looks like before baby arrives!
Since I’m currently taking a break from client work to prep for maternity leave, my weekly schedule is all about content creation + scheduling, template building, and behind-the-scenes systems that will keep my business running while I step away. This rhythm won’t last forever (hello, newborn life!), but for now, it’s helping me stay focused and make real progress.
Here’s how my current work blocks are structured:
Monday
🕘 9am–3/5pm: Marketing Day
✦ Write & edit 1–2 blog posts (aiming to stay at least one month ahead)
✦ Create and schedule 3-6 Instagram posts
✦ Design and schedule 5 Pinterest pins for each blog post
Tuesday – Thursday
🕐 9am–3/5pm: Template Work
✦ Design upcoming Squarespace templates
✦ Refine my website, automations, and client deliverables
Friday
🕘 9am–12pm: Mockups + Launch Prep
✦ Launch new templates or continue building out current ones
🕐 1pm–3pm: Weekly Wrap-Up
✦ Tie up loose ends and review content going out next week
In between? I carve out a midday break (about 2 hours) for movement and rest — whether that’s a gym session, walking, lunch, ordering more baby products, errands, or a quick power clean around the house. These little resets are everything for my focus and energy levels — especially during pregnancy!
This schedule helps me stay consistent without burning out. I may not be doing it all, but I’m doing what matters most in this season. 💛
My Afternoon Recharge
Let’s be real… pregnancy tiredness is no joke.
By the time 3PM hits, I can usually feel my energy shutting down — and instead of pushing through just for the sake of “getting more done,” I’ve learned to listen to my body. My workday typically wraps up somewhere between 3–5PM, depending on how much mental and physical fuel I’ve got left in the tank.
Yes, I still aim to complete the 3 priority tasks I set at the start of the day, but beyond that? I try not to overextend myself. High stress and growing a baby don’t mix well — and that peace of mind is just as important as checking one more thing off the list.
Most afternoons, my focus shifts from business mode to “nesting” mode — and honestly, it’s one of my favorite parts of the day. That might look like:
Ordering the next round of baby must-haves (thank you, Amazon Prime)
Tidying up or reorganizing spaces that need a refresh
Prepping for upcoming doctor’s visits
Researching lactation, newborn routines, or what to expect post-birth
Some days, I’m motivated to knock out a few more things. Other days, I close the laptop and remind myself: that template 404 Page can wait. Baby — and sustainability — come first.
This slower afternoon rhythm has helped me stay productive and present — not only in my business, but in preparing mentally, emotionally, and physically for this next chapter.
Evening Wind-Down 🌙
Once 5PM rolls around, I officially switch into evening mode — and it’s honestly one of the sweetest parts of my day. It’s a time to slow down, reconnect, and ease into rest after a full day of working from home (with a baby belly slowly growing!).
Most evenings start with reconnecting with my husband — unless he’s out on the baseball field coaching! We’ll usually chat while dinner’s cooking (or more accurately…while my amazing mom finishes preparing it). Yes, we’re currently living with my parents — and it’s been such a gift in this season.
We moved from California to South Florida in April 2025 and were invited to live with them temporarily while we prepare for baby, build our businesses, and save for a home. Having this support has allowed us to focus on paying off debt, growing income, and prepping for parenthood — without the stress of rent, furniture shopping, or juggling too many big expenses at once. Truly such a blessing!
After dinner, unless the South Florida heat is too intense, my husband and I like to take a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood. This has become a daily rhythm for us — a chance to debrief, share what we’re learning, and simply enjoy each other’s company away from screens. It’s one of our marriage non-negotiables, and while life with a newborn might change switch this up later on, we’re committed to keeping this connection point in some form.
Once we’re back, it’s showers, a quick tidy-up of the house, and then you’ll find us flopped on the couch — winding down with a show or a good movie while my husband rubs my pregnant feet. Around 9:30PM, we head to bed, grab our baby books (currently diving into all things feeding, wake windows, and sleep schedules!), and read until we’re ready to turn out the lights by 10:30PM.
Our evenings aren’t glamorous, but they’re full of peace, intention, and preparation for the next day — and that feels like everything right now.
How I Adapted My Workflow for Pregnancy
Pregnancy has shifted the way I approach business — and honestly, it’s been the reset I didn’t know I needed. I’ve had to slow down, stay consistent with small but meaningful actions, and find new ways to stay inspired (even on the tired days). With baby arriving this September, I’m learning to prioritize what matters now so I can set myself up to return with clarity and confidence after maternity leave. I’ll share more soon about how I’m preparing for 2026 clients — but if you’re a fellow work-from-home mom or solo entrepreneur, know this: you’re not alone, and it’s okay to figure it out one day at a time.
