How to Choose the Right Squarespace Template for Your Business

Your step-by-step guide to picking the perfect design — without the overwhelm

Choosing the right Squarespace template can feel overwhelming — especially when you’re just getting your business off the ground. With dozens of stylish options to scroll through, it’s easy to get stuck trying to make the “perfect” choice.

Whether you’re a new small business owner, a side hustler ready to go pro, or a DIYer launching your first website — the right template can make all the difference. It sets the tone for your brand, makes your services shine, and gives you the structure you need to launch quickly with confidence.

In this post, I’m sharing everything you need to know to find the best Squarespace template for your business in 2025 — including what features to look for, how to simplify your decision, and a few favorites from my own template shop designed specifically for small business owners like you.

By the end, you’ll feel clear, confident, and ready to launch.

1. Consider Your Business Type + Goals

Before diving into aesthetics, take a step back and ask: What kind of business am I building? Your goals should guide your template choice.

Here are a few questions to consider:

  • Am I launching a personal brand or company brand?

  • Am I offering services, products, or both?

  • Will I need a blog, shop, or scheduling system built-in?

  • Am I just starting out, or ready to scale?

If you’re a service provider with a few offers, you’ll want a template with clear service pages, strong CTAs, and a contact or booking feature. If you’re a photographer or designer, a built-in portfolio is key. Product-based businesses should prioritize e-commerce functionality with featured products and a smooth checkout experience. Make sure to look for these features in a template you might be browsing to ensure you pick the one that will suit you best!

Start with your business model and goals, and let that lead your search.

2. Look for Built-In Features You Need

One of the biggest benefits of choosing the right Squarespace template is saving time by starting with the structure you need.

📌 Ask yourself:

  • Does this template have the pages I’ll actually use (like Services, FAQs, Booking, Blog, Shop, Portfolio)?

  • Are the integrations I need (like Acuity, Calendly, HoneyBook or forms) supported or can I embed them in?

  • Is it easy to update content without breaking the design?

For example, if you’re a service-based business, a built-in Services or Pricing page is essential. If you're a coach, you'll likely want testimonials and a strong About section. If you're a shop owner, look for a template with a seamless store layout already baked in.

✨ All of my templates are industry-specific — meaning they’re designed with your unique business needs in mind. No more guessing what to include!

3. Prioritize Layout + Flow Over Fonts/Colors

It’s tempting to pick a template just because the colors or fonts match your brand aesthetic — but don’t let that be your deciding factor. Why?

🎯 Fonts, colors, and images are the easiest parts to customize on Squarespace.

Instead, focus on the layout structure — the way pages are built, how sections are spaced, and how the content flows. Does the design guide the user naturally from one step to the next? Does the home page immediately highlight what you do?

📱 Think about your visitor’s experience: will they know what to do next?

You can always tweak the aesthetic later — but you can’t easily restructure a layout without lots of time and design skill.

PRO TIP: If you love the layout but not the visuals, ask: “Can I see my brand photos and colors here?” If yes, it’s a strong match!

4. Make Sure It’s Mobile Friendly + SEO Ready

With more than half of web traffic happening on phones, your template must be mobile-friendly.

Squarespace templates are generally responsive — but the way a template is structured still matters. On the mobile version of a template, look for:

  • Clean layouts that stack well on mobile

  • Legible font sizes and CTA buttons that are easy to tap

  • Clear sections that don’t overwhelm small screens

And don’t forget SEO! A strong template should give you the ability to:

  • Add page titles + meta descriptions

  • Add image alt text

  • Use headings correctly (H1, H2, etc.)

💡 All templates from my shop come mobile-optimized and SEO-friendly — giving you a strong foundation for long-term growth.
